Willy Altamirano: A Legacy Forged in Gold

Willy Altamirano’s journey began in Ecuador, where his passion for jewelry was sparked at just seven years old. After accidentally breaking his mother’s earrings, he was determined to fix them—but it wasn’t until a family social event weeks later, when his mother needed those very earrings, that the spark became a fire. By 13, he was already enrolled in jewelry school, setting the foundation for a lifelong craft.

At 16 and a half, Willy immigrated to the United States in pursuit of opportunity. It was the 1980s, and the American jewelry industry was booming—he found his place in it instantly. Though his skills spoke volumes, he faced a language barrier. Never one to back down from a challenge, he enrolled in school to learn English, sharpening both his craft and his communication.

Beyond the workbench, Willy had another passion: running. A dedicated athlete, he trained for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and went on to represent in the 1997 World Duathlon Championship, placing 71st among elite competitors.

By 1992, after years of experience across several jewelry companies, Willy took the leap and opened his own business: Motion Jewelers. His talent, grit, and integrity laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Plano Custom Jewelers, a trusted name in craftsmanship, honesty, and family-driven service.
